About this role

Job Title: Taekwondo Coach / Instructor Location: Hyderabad Reports to: Head of Sports / Activities Coordinator / Principal Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time Job Purpose: To design and lead a safe, disciplined, and engaging Taekwondo program that supports students’ physical development, mental focus, confidence, and respect for others. The coach will deliver structured lessons across age groups, promote personal growth through martial arts, and prepare interested students for grading and competition opportunities. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Coaching Conduct regular Taekwondo classes, focusing on poomsae (forms), kyorugi (sparring), self-defense, and discipline. Teach proper techniques including stances, kicks, strikes, blocks, and falls, tailored to student skill levels. Emphasize core values of Taekwondo such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, and indomitable spirit. Curriculum & Program Development Design and implement a progressive Taekwondo curriculum suitable for different age groups and skill levels. Prepare students for belt gradings and oversee the progression from white to black belt under recognized standards. Incorporate fitness training, flexibility, and strength development into the program. Competitions & Demonstrations Identify and train students for inter-house, inter-school, regional, or international Taekwondo competitions (if applicable). Organize in-school Taekwondo showcases, grading ceremonies, or cultural demonstrations. Coach students in both poomsae and kyorugi formats following recognized competition rules (e.g., World Taekwondo/WTF standards). Safety & Risk Management Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols during training, sparring, and demonstrations. Ensure appropriate use of protective gear and safe practice techniques. Provide immediate care in case of injury and maintain up-to-date first aid certification. Equipment & Facility Oversight Manage and maintain training equipment including mats, shields, paddles, body protectors, and headgear. Ensure the training area is clean, hazard-free, and conducive to learning. Keep an inventory of supplies and request replacements or new equipment as needed. Student Engagement & Mentorship Support holistic development by fostering discipline, confidence, teamwork, and emotional control. Monitor individual progress and provide feedback to students and parents. Adapt instruction to support students with different learning needs and backgrounds. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with the sports department and extracurricular program coordinators. Communicate schedules, achievements, and events with school staff and parents. Participate in school-wide activities, assemblies, and wellness or cultural events. Qualifications & Experience: Black Belt in Taekwondo from a recognized federation (e.g., Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo) Certified Taekwondo Instructor or Coach (preferred) First Aid & CPR Certification (required) 2–5 years of teaching/coaching experience, ideally with children or adolescents Experience conducting belt promotions and preparing students for competitions (desirable) Skills & Attributes: Deep knowledge of Taekwondo techniques, traditions, and values Ability to manage a classroom with authority, patience, and fairness High standards of personal discipline and professionalism Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to motivate and inspire students of all ages and abilities Cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness in an international school setting Desirable (Optional): Experience working in an international or IB (PYP/MYP) school Experience preparing students for national or international tournaments Familiarity with integrating Taekwondo into PE, wellness, or CAS programs Background in other martial arts or fitness disciplines Multilingual communication skills
