Job Description:     Job Family Definition: Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design. Management Level Definition: Contributions impact technical components of HPE products, solutions, or services regularly and sustainable. Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Provides expertise and partnership to functional and technical project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for achieving objectives. May provide team leadership and mentoring to others. What You'll Do Own and extend the Minis platform  across embedded (AP firmware, switches, gateways) and cloud (data pipelines, SLE classifiers, REST APIs) — designing how tests are scheduled, executed in sandboxed environments (Linux namespaces, cgroups, ulimits), and how results flow to the cloud via Kafka to SLE classifiers Debug cross-layer issues  — troubleshoot problems that span AP firmware, cloud services, and data pipelines (e.g., why a downloadable mini fails on specific AP models, why SLE classifiers show incorrect data)  Contribute to cross-platform expansion  — help extend Minis to switches and WAN edge devices, working with peer dev teams  Build and improve cloud services  — work on Storm topologies, Airflow DAGs, Redis caching, Elasticsearch queries, and Kafka consumers that process millions of Minis test results  Participate in production operations  — monitor rollouts of features and respond to customer-reported issues  Collaborate  with senior engineers, the data science team, QA, and firmware teams  What you need to bring: Experience : 10+ years of professional software engineering, with at least 4 years building software that spans both embedded/device and cloud systems   Education : BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (MS preferred) Go or C on embedded Linux : 4+ years writing production software in  Go  or  C  targeting Linux-based embedded platforms — meaning you have built, debugged, and shipped code that runs on resource-constrained devices, dealt with cross-compilation toolchains, and managed process lifecycle on embedded Linux.    Python for cloud/data/tooling : 2+ years writing Python for cloud services, data pipelines, scripting, or test automation — meaning you can build and maintain production scripts, work with data processing frameworks, and write tooling that other engineers rely on.    Cloud data pipelines : 3+ years building or operating real-time and batch data pipelines — you have hands-on experience with at least two of: Kafka, Apache Storm/Flink, Airflow, Redis, or Elasticsearch, and can make architectural trade-off decisions (e.g., when to use streaming vs. batch, how to handle backpressure, how to design baselines)    Linux systems : Deep working knowledge of Linux internals — process isolation (namespaces, cgroups), resource management (ulimits, CPU/memory profiling), networking (iptables, routing tables, network namespaces), and debugging tools (gdb, strace, tcpdump, perf). You should be the person others come to when something is wrong at the OS level.  Networking fundamentals : Working understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, HTTP, and network path diagnostics (traceroute, MTR) — sufficient to design network tests, interpret results, and troubleshoot failures across the client-to-cloud path  Production delivery : Track record of owning and shipping multi-component features across device and cloud, working within production push cadences, and managing rollout (e.g., alpha → staging → production, feature flags)  Preferred Qualifications Experience with embedded Linux development — cross-compilation, on-device debugging, resource-constrained environments Experience with AI/ML at the edge — on-device inference, model optimization, or TinyML Familiarity with wireless networking (802.11), AP hardware platforms, or firmware release processes Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in both cloud and embedded contexts Contributions to self-driving/autonomous systems — closed-loop remediation, config validation, or automated testing Experience working with chipset/silicon vendors (Broadcom, Qualcomm) Additional Skills: Cloud Architectures, Cross Domain Knowledge, Design Thinking, Development Fundamentals, DevOps, Distributed Computing, Microservices Fluency, Full Stack Development, Security-First Mindset, Solutions Design, Testing & Automation, User Experience (UX) What We Can Offer You: Health & Wellbeing We strive to provide our team members and their loved ones with a comprehensive suite of benefits that supports their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing.
