Senior Software Engineer — Agentic Systems
About the Role
The primary role of the Software Engineering function within the Product Development team is to create specifications and designs for new products and improvements to existing systems — working closely with customers, developers, and stakeholders to understand and define needs.
We're building the foundational infrastructure that powers our agentic AI applications and we need a seasoned backend engineer to help us do it right. You'll join a cross-functional team of data engineers and analysts working at the intersection of data engineering and AI systems development. Your job is to bring production-grade engineering discipline to a team that's moving fast in a space where the patterns are still being written.
Let's Talk About Responsibilities
The primary objective of this role is to design, develop, test, and deliver software that meets our business and customer needs. Key responsibilities include: designing, developing, and testing software; verifying behavior through manual and automated tests; delivering quality product within timeline; documenting product design; and collaborating effectively with all stakeholders.
In this role you will:
Join a team sitting at the intersection of data engineering and AI systems development to build the infrastructure that supports current and future agentic needs
Design and maintain pipelines that ingest, transform, and act on data intelligently in support of AI agent workflows
Drive best practices in microservice architecture, helping the team design systems that are consistent, scalable, and operationally sound
Serve as the technical voice on how to take agentic applications from prototype to production — reliability, observability, and lifecycle management included
Own the full lifecycle of your services — design, build, test, deploy, observe, iterate — verifying behavior meets requirements through both manual and automated testing
Lead cooperative efforts among project team members; serve as a best practice resource within your area of expertise
Mentor and support teammates with varying technical backgrounds — patience and a genuine interest in growing others is essential here
Let's Talk About Qualifications and Experience
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 8 years of related software engineering experience
Strong experience designing and building microservices with production best practices: service boundaries, health checks, structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics
Deep understanding of REST APIs, async patterns, and event-driven systems
Strong hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud infrastructure
Applies functional knowledge and existing methodologies to solve complex problems and execute specialized projects
Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; determines methods and procedures on new assignments
A systems-thinking mindset — you reason about how components interact, fail, and recover, not just how each piece works in isolation
Demonstrated ability to productionalize software
Comfortable working in emerging problem spaces where established patterns don't yet exist
Collaborative, patient, and open to learning; equally comfortable learning from a domain expert as you are teaching engineering fundamentals
Preferred
AWS (EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, or similar)
Python; experience with FastAPI or similar async frameworks
Familiarity with healthcare data and PHI compliance requirements (HIPAA)
Exposure to agent-to-agent (A2A) protocols or multi-agent system design
Experience networking with contacts outside own area of expertise and leading sub-functional teams or projects
You'll Thrive Here If You...
Are energized by ambiguity and emerging technology rather than unsettled by it
Care deeply about doing things the right way, but know when to move fast
Enjoy working with people across disciplines — analysts, data engineers, and ML practitioners — and can meet them where they are
Culture Fit
We're a cross-disciplinary team where domain expertise comes in many forms. You bring strong engineering instincts; others bring deep knowledge in math, data science, or the business domain. The best work here happens when those perspectives meet in the middle. We value humility, curiosity, and the ability to learn from anyone on the team — regardless of title or background.
Joining us is more than saying “yes” to making the world a healthier place. It’s discovering a career that’s challenging, supportive and inspiring.
