1. Land & Topographical Survey
Conduct site surveys before construction starts
Measure boundaries, contours, elevations, and coordinates
Prepare survey drawings and maps
Use Total Station, Auto Level, DGPS, and GPS equipment
2. Layout & Marking Work
Mark locations for:
Transformer foundations
Control room buildings
Switchyard equipment
Cable trenches
Gantry structures
Earthing grids
Ensure alignment as per engineering drawings
3. Level Checking
Check excavation depth and foundation levels
Verify PCC, footing, and structure elevations
Maintain accuracy during civil construction
4. Quantity & Measurement Support
Assist civil engineers in:
Earthwork calculations
Area and volume measurement
Preparation of measurement sheets (MB)
Billing quantities for contractors
5. Coordination With Engineers
Work with civil, electrical, and QA/QC teams
Coordinate with contractors and site supervisors
Ensure execution matches approved drawings
6. Documentation
Maintain:
Survey records
As-built drawings
Level books
Daily progress reports
Skills Required
Knowledge of surveying instruments
Understanding of substation layouts
AutoCAD basics
Reading civil and electrical drawings
Accuracy and field coordination

Diploma or B.Tech in Civil Engineering
ITI Surveyor trade (for junior roles)
Experience in power, infrastructure, or transmission projects

Mostly outdoor field work
Large project sites and switchyards
Rotational/project-based postings across India are common in NTPC projects
