Job Summary
The Production Chemist (API) is responsible for executing and monitoring chemical manufacturing processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The role involves ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant production operations while maintaining high-quality standards as per regulatory guidelines such as GMP.
Key Responsibilities
Execute batch manufacturing processes for APIs as per Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR)
Monitor reaction parameters (temperature, pressure, pH, etc.) and ensure process consistency
Handle scale-up activities from lab/pilot to plant level
Ensure adherence to
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
and safety protocols
Maintain proper documentation of production activities and logs
Coordinate with QA/QC teams for sampling, testing, and release of intermediates and APIs
Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions
Optimize yield, reduce waste, and improve process efficiency
Ensure proper handling of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products
Support validation and qualification activities (process validation, equipment qualification)
Maintain cleanliness and safety in the production area
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and API synthesis
Hands-on experience in chemical reactions, distillation, crystallization, filtration, drying
Familiarity with regulatory standards like GMP, ICH guidelines
Knowledge of process safety and hazard analysis (HAZOP preferred)
Ability to read and interpret PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams) and SOPs
Problem-solving and analytical thinking
Good documentation and reporting skills
Team collaboration and communication skills
