Senior Data Scientist, Vice President

Role Description
As a Senior Data Science Leader, you will analyse, interpret, and derive actionable insights from extremely large and complex datasets using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). A central focus of this role is understanding how trades flow through the bank at scale whilst leveraging statistical and analytical methodologies to: identify bottlenecks, anomalies, categorise system/client/user behaviour, and identify efficiency opportunities across the trade lifecycle.
You will work closely with business, tech, and product partners to translate complex business questions into robust statistical investigations that deliver measurable impact. Where solutions are meaningful, repeatable, and actionable there is scope to extend the role to deploy AI/ML solutions to take preventative actions.
Development of data pipelines and deploying code to production is managed by the wider engineering team.

Your key responsibilities
Analyse trade‑flow datasets end‑to‑end to identify trends, inefficiencies, anomalies, and behavioural shifts
Combine market data with internal trade data to detect signal, regime changes, or operational risk patterns
Build scalable analytical workflows using GCP tools (primarily BigQuery and Dataflow)
Develop forecasting and predictive‑analytics models to support capacity planning, operational readiness, and risk mitigation
Work with business, tech, and product teams to frame ambiguous analytical questions and propose structured approaches
Communicate insights through clear narratives, dashboards, and visualisations tailored to financial‑markets stakeholders
Apply rigorous statistical techniques to validate findings, ensuring reproducibility and business relevance
Optimise analytical workloads for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency in GCP
Contribute to data quality, metadata management, and analytics standards for trade‑related data
Collaborate with engineering teams to productionise repeatable analytical workflows
Explore opportunities to evolve analytics into
preventative AI/ML tooling
where patterns indicate actionable interventions
Your skills and experience
Leading data science for the program, collaborating with others to understand requirements, design, validate, & implement solutions, development of junior colleagues in the team
Strong statistical and analytical background, with expertise/interest in:
Time‑series analysis, forecasting, trend decomposition
Clustering, segmentation, and regime‑shift detection
Anomaly and outlier detection across trade and market datasets
Predictive modelling and exploratory data analysis (EDA)
Strong interest in markets and investment banking
, including:
Trade lifecycle concepts
Market microstructure
Trading behaviours and execution patterns
Expertise in Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, StatsModels, PySpark)
Strong SQL skills, including experience with very large datasets
Hands‑on experience with
Google Cloud Platform
, especially:
BigQuery
Vertex AI (for analytics tooling and optional model development)
Looker/BI tools for analytical storytelling
Experience working with distributed data‑processing frameworks
Familiarity with ML, AI techniques, and Agentic frameworks is a bonus but not the primary focus
Experience with data pipelines and orchestration tools (Cloud Composer, Cloud Run) for automated analytics workflows
Strong data visualisation capabilities (Python plotting, Looker, Tableau)
Experience applying rigorous statistical methods (hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, validation frameworks)
