Job Description: Senior Accountant – Property & General Accounting

Role Overview
We are seeking a
highly execution-driven Senior Accountant
to manage end-to-end accounting operations across a portfolio of
property management clients as well as general business clients
.
This role requires strong expertise in
financial accounting, property accounting, and client delivery
, along with the ability to
lead teams, standardize processes, and ensure high-quality output across diverse client environments
.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable switching between
property-specific accounting (HOA, multi-family, CAM, rent roll)
and
general accounting (GL, financial reporting, AP/AR, close cycles)
without compromising accuracy or timelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Accounting & Financial Oversight (All Clients)
Preparation of
financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow)
across property and non-property clients
Ensure
accuracy, completeness, and compliance
with GAAP / client-specific policies
Assist in
month-end and year-end close processes
, including review of journals and reconciliations
Deliver
timely and insight-driven financial reports
to clients
2. Property Management Accounting (Specialized Area)
Manage accounting for
HOA, multi-family, and commercial real estate portfolios
, including:
CAM reconciliations
Tenant ledgers and rent rolls
Security deposit accounting
Lease-related accounting
Prepare
property-level financials, owner statements, and variance analysis
Ensure accurate tracking of
property income, operating expenses, and budgets
3. General Accounting (Non-Property Clients)
Oversee end-to-end accounting including:
General ledger maintenance
Revenue recognition and expense booking
Accruals, prepaids, and reclassifications
Review
trial balances, schedules, and supporting documentation
Ensure smooth
close cycles and audit readiness
4. Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
Supervise AP/AR processes across all clients:
Vendor invoice processing and payments
Customer billing and collections
Review
aging reports, discrepancies, and reconciliations
Ensure accuracy of
bank and credit card reconciliations
5. Financial Analysis & Reporting
Perform
variance analysis (budget vs actuals)
Prepare
MIS reports, dashboards, and performance insights
Support
budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
6. Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
Oversee preparation/review of:
Sales tax reconciliations and filings
1099 filings
Ensure adherence to
internal controls, audit requirements, and client compliance frameworks
7. Team Management & Process Ownership
Lead and manage a
team of accountants
, ensuring quality and timelines
Review team output and provide
technical guidance and mentoring
Establish and enforce
SOPs, review checklists, and control mechanisms
Act as the
first escalation point
for operational and client issues
Drive structured team training and capability development
, including onboarding programs, periodic technical refreshers (property & general accounting), and process-specific SOP training to ensure consistent quality and scalability.
8. Process Improvement & Automation
Identify inefficiencies and implement
process improvements and automation initiatives
Drive standardization across
property and general accounting workflows
Collaborate with internal teams on
ERP/system enhancements
9. Client Relationship Management
Act as a
primary point of contact for clients across industries
Manage expectations, timelines, and escalations
Provide
value-added insights and recommendations
Build long-term relationships through
consistent delivery excellence
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CA Inter / CMA / CPA (pursuing or qualified) preferred
Experience
2–3 years of experience in accounting, including:
Property management accounting (preferred but not mandatory)
General accounting across multiple clients/industries
Experience in
team handling, review, and client delivery
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of
accounting principles (US GAAP preferred)
Hands-on experience with tools like:
Yardi / AppFolio (property accounting)
QuickBooks / NetSuite / Xero (general accounting)
Advanced proficiency in
Microsoft Excel
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
High attention to detail with a
review and control mindset
Excellent communication and
client-facing skills
Ability to manage
multiple clients, teams, and deadlines simultaneously
