About the Role
eBay’s Shipping team powers critical buying and selling decisions by delivering optimized shipping choices and seamless post-purchase experiences at global scale. We build and operate highly distributed, low-latency, high-availability systems that enable borderless commerce for millions of users.
As a
Principal Architect
, you will lead the design and evolution of next-generation shipping and fulfillment platforms. You will drive enterprise-scale architectural strategy, solve complex logistics challenges, and build resilient, high-throughput systems that integrate with a fragmented global carrier ecosystem.
What you will accomplish:
Define and drive enterprise architecture for large-scale, distributed shipping platforms across global markets
Design and deliver high-performance, resilient backend systems with strong SLAs (availability, latency, scalability)
Lead architectural initiatives to improve transaction efficiency, throughput, and customer experience
Build and evolve microservices-based platforms integrating with global carriers and logistics partners
Collaborate cross-functionally (product, payments, fulfillment) to deliver innovative, scalable solutions
Mentor senior engineers and architects; champion engineering excellence and best practices
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance performance, interoperability, and system reliability
What you will bring:
15+ years of experience building and architecting large-scale enterprise platforms.
Proven track record of operating at Principal level or equivalent, influencing beyond immediate team
Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, distributed systems, and microservices at scale
Strong experience in supply chain / logistics domain (shipping, fulfillment, carrier ecosystems preferred)
Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python with strong backend engineering depth
Experience designing systems for high throughput, low latency, and global scale
Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices
Exceptional ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex technical strategies
Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
