Pipeline Developer:
1. Pipeline Development & Maintenance
Design, develop, and maintain Nuke scripts, tools, and workflows to improve compositing efficiency.
Ensure seamless integration of Nuke with other VFX pipeline tools such as Maya, Houdini, and Kitsu
Identify pipeline bottlenecks and propose automation solutions.
2. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
Provide technical assistance to compositing artists in solving complex Nuke-related challenges.
Debug and optimize scripts to enhance performance and render efficiency.
Collaborate with IT and pipeline teams to address software/hardware issues.
3. Workflow Optimization & Automation
Develop automated solutions for repetitive compositing tasks to increase productivity.
Implement best practices for script organization and standardization across the team.
Ensure smooth data flow between departments by maintaining compatibility with various software.
4. Training & Documentation
Conduct training sessions to upskill artists on advanced Nuke techniques and custom tools.
Create and maintain documentation for in-house scripts, tools, and workflow procedures.
5. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with compositing supervisors, VFX supervisors, and pipeline developers to align technical solutions with creative requirements.
Provide feedback on new software updates and suggest potential upgrades.
Act as a bridge between artists and developers, ensuring a balance between technical efficiency and artistic requirements.
6. Research & Development
Stay updated with the latest Nuke advancements, plugins, and industry trends.
Explore and test new technologies, including AI-driven solutions, to enhance compositing workflows.
Develop proof-of-concept tools and techniques to improve VFX production quality.
7. Render Optimization & Performance Monitoring
Optimize Nuke scripts for efficient rendering and reduced processing times.
Identify and resolve memory-intensive scripts to prevent crashes and delays.
Work with render farm teams to streamline submission processes and troubleshoot rendering issues.
8. Quality Control & Standards Enforcement
Ensure all compositing outputs meet the studio’s technical and artistic standards.
Establish naming conventions, folder structures, and best practices for asset management.
Conduct reviews of complex shots to identify areas for technical improvement.
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators):
Efficiency improvement in compositing workflow (measured by artist feedback and time saved).
Number of technical issues resolved within set timeframes.
Adoption rate of newly developed tools and scripts by artists.
