Manager, Data Science (Analytics) — eBay Live Trust & Safety | L25 Location: Bangalore, India Role Overview We are seeking a Manager, Data Science (Analytics) to lead analytics for the Trust & Safety pillar within eBay Live , eBay’s real-time livestream commerce platform. eBay Live is a fast-growing, interactive shopping experience featuring auctions and purchases across Collectibles, Luxury, Sneakers, and Apparel . As a relatively new business unit, eBay Live requires strong foundational analytics to ensure safe, trusted, and scalable growth. The Trust & Safety team drives critical initiatives such as: Live content moderation and enforcement Defining and monitoring seller standards for eBay Live Reducing bad buyer and bad seller experiences Mitigating unpaid items and abusive behaviors This is a senior individual contributor role with mentorship and thought-leadership responsibilities. You will own complex problem spaces end to end, shape analytical strategy, and partner closely with product, policy, operations, and engineering teams to build scalable trust frameworks. This role is ideal for a technically strong analytics leader who enjoys business problem solving, experimentation, machine learning, and AI enablement in a 0 → 1 environment. Key Responsibilities Trust & Safety Analytics Ownership (Core Focus) Own analytics for one or more strategic Trust & Safety domains within eBay Live Define measurable success metrics for Live content integrity, seller standards, and buyer experience health Identify key drivers of trust-related risks and propose data-backed mitigation strategies Act as the analytics thought leader for your domain Foundational Measurement & Scaling Build foundational metrics and dashboards for Trust & Safety in a real-time Live environment Partner with engineering to influence event instrumentation and data quality Develop scalable monitoring frameworks that evolve with product growth Establish repeatable analytical standards across the pillar Experimentation & Causal Measurement Design and analyze A/B tests and controlled experiments for trust-related initiatives Apply causal inference and quasi-experimental methods when randomized testing is not feasible Evaluate policy, moderation, and enforcement changes with statistical rigor Clearly communicate impact, uncertainty, and tradeoffs to stakeholders Machine Learning & AI Enablement Develop or support ML-driven solutions such as: Seller segmentation and risk profiling Detection of abusive or low-quality behavior Behavioral clustering and anomaly detection Partner with engineering and data teams to productionize analytical models Explore AI-enabled approaches to moderation and trust diagnostics Business Problem Solving & Strategy Analyze root causes of unpaid items, poor buyer/seller experiences, and content violations Conduct opportunity sizing and ROI analysis for trust initiatives Balance trust enforcement with growth and user experience considerations Support strategic planning and leadership reviews with structured insights Stakeholder Management & Influence Partner closely with product, policy, operations, engineering, and leadership teams Drive alignment on metrics, definitions, and success criteria Influence decisions through clear storytelling and strong analytical reasoning Navigate ambiguity and competing priorities effectively Mentorship & Analytics Excellence Mentor junior analysts and data scientists through analytical and technical guidance Raise the bar on rigor, clarity, and reproducibility Contribute to shared best practices across eBay Live analytics Technical Excellence Write high-quality, scalable Python and SQL code Design robust, interpretable analyses and models Review complex queries, experiments, and analytical outputs for quality and accuracy Required Qualifications 7–11 years of experience in analytics, data science, or related roles Strong proficiency in Python and SQL Deep experience with A/B testing, experimentation, and causal inference Strong grounding in statistical modeling and analytical methods Experience applying machine learning techniques (supervised and unsupervised) Proven ability to independently own complex, ambiguous problem spaces Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Experience influencing cross-functional teams without formal authority Preferred Qualifications Experience in Trust & Safety, risk, fraud, or content moderation analytics Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, or live/real-time platforms Familiarity with AI-enabled moderation or behavioral detection systems Experience working in early-stage or fast-scaling product environments Exposure to regulated or policy-driven product domains What You’ll Get Ownership of analytics for a critical pillar within a strategic growth business A senior IC role with high visibility and cross-functional influence Opportunity to build foundational trust frameworks from the ground up Exposure to real-time systems and complex behavioral analytics A clear path toward L26 analytics leadership roles Additional Details eBay is an equal opportunity employer.
