Position: Manager - EHS Officer/ Coordinator
Reports To: VP Operations / IMS MR (for ISO 14001 & ISO 45001)
Location: Supa (Ahmednagar)
Purpose of Position:
The EHS Officer/Coordinator is responsible for implementing and monitoring Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs within the BESS manufacturing facility. The role ensures compliance with local, national, and international regulations related to lithium-ion battery manufacturing, hazardous materials handling, fire safety, electrical safety, and environmental management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
Maintain statutory registers, licenses, and permits (hazardous waste, air emissions, fire NOC, etc.).
Liaise with government authorities and regulatory agencies.
Conduct internal compliance audits.
2. Workplace Safety Management
Develop and implement site-specific EHS procedures.
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA/JSA).
Monitor high-risk activities such as:
o Battery cell handling
o High-voltage electrical testing
o Chemical storage
o Welding and fabrication
o Heavy equipment operation
Enforce PPE compliance and safe work practices.
Conduct safety inspections and safety walks.
3. Fire & Emergency Management
Develop emergency response plans specific to BESS hazards (thermal runaway, lithium battery fire).
Conduct mock drills (fire, chemical spill, electrical emergency).
Coordinate fire protection systems maintenance (sprinklers, gas suppression systems).
Ensure availability of fire extinguishers suitable for battery fires
4. Environmental Management
Monitor waste management including hazardous battery waste and scrap cells.
Ensure safe disposal/recycling of lithium-ion batteries.
Monitor air emissions, wastewater discharge, and pollution control systems.
Maintain ISO 14001 compliance
5. Incident Investigation
Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA).
Recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Maintain incident records and report to management.
6. Training & Awareness
Conduct EHS induction for new employees.
Organize training on:
o Electrical safety / LOTO
o Chemical handling
o Working at height
o Confined space entry
o Battery fire response
Promote safety culture and awareness campaigns.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain EHS documentation and records.
Prepare monthly EHS performance reports.
Track safety KPIs
Support ISO14001 & ISO 45001 certification and audits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Environmental Engineering / Industrial Safety / Occupational Health & Safety / Engineering.
Diploma in Industrial Safety (preferred).
8 - 12 years of EHS experience in manufacturing (battery, electronics, automotive preferred).
Knowledge of lithium-ion battery safety is highly desirable.
