Position Overview
The Intern - Quantity Surveyor will work closely with our experienced Quantity Surveyors and project teams to assist in various aspects of quantity surveying, cost estimation, and project management. This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in quantity surveying or construction management to gain valuable industry experience and build a strong foundation of skills and knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation and Analysis
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documents for construction projects.
- Learn to analyze project specifications, drawings, and contracts to identify and quantify materials, labor, and other costs.
- Support senior Quantity Surveyors in conducting cost comparisons, value engineering assessments, and budget forecasting.
2. Quantity Takeoffs and Measurements
- Learn to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and measurements from architectural and engineering drawings.
- Assist in compiling and documenting quantities for various construction elements, including earthwork, concrete, steel, and finishes.
- Gain proficiency in using digital measurement tools and software to streamline quantity surveying tasks.
3. Contract Administration
- Support the administration of construction contracts, including reviewing and processing change orders, variations, and payment applications.
- Learn to assess and track project progress, quantities installed, and work completed against contractual agreements.
- Assist in maintaining organized project files, documentation, and correspondence related to contract administration.
4. Project Support and Coordination
- Collaborate with project teams to provide quantity surveying support and assistance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to gather project information and documentation.
- Learn to communicate effectively with project stakeholders and participate in project meetings and site visits as required.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of construction processes, materials, and terminology is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software applications.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges in a dynamic work environment.
