Job Description: Impact You’ll Make: This role is a member of the broader Cyber Security Observability Engineering team and will work alongside teams responsible for site reliability, platform engineering, and application development. The individual in this role will contribute to improving system visibility, monitoring capabilities, and overall service reliability across the organization. This role will include: • Analyzing system metrics, logs, and traces to identify performance issues, anomalies, or service degradation, and assist in determining root cause. • Supporting the creation, tuning, and maintenance of monitoring alerts, dashboards, and automated observability workflows. • Assisting in the development and refinement of observability standards, including instrumentation strategies and telemetry collection practices. • Contributing to the implementation, evaluation, and optimization of observability platforms and tools (e.g., logging, tracing, metrics systems). • Promoting a culture of automation and efficiency by helping reduce manual operational effort and improving Cyber Defense processes. • Participating in Agile software development practices, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. • Collaborating effectively with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to ensure reliable delivery of monitoring and observability solutions. • Supporting a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and knowledge sharing, with a focus on reliability engineering principles and modern observability practices. • This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week. What You'll Bring: Qualifications and Education: What You’ll Bring: Experience in Observability, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, or related IT operations roles. Foundational knowledge of operating systems and networking, including Linux/Windows basics, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, and cloud networking concepts. Experience monitoring and troubleshooting application and infrastructure performance, including identifying and resolving service degradation or outages. Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools, such as metrics, logging, and tracing platforms (e.g., Azure Monitor, Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar). Basic understanding of telemetry data types (metrics, logs, traces) and how they are used for troubleshooting and performance optimization. Experience creating or maintaining dashboards and alerts to support system health visibility. Exposure to scripting or automation, using at least one language (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) to support operational efficiency. Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern distributed systems concepts is preferred. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Agile development practices is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and identify patterns or anomalies. Ability to learn quickly and grasp high-level technical concepts, especially across distributed systems. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams. Nice to Have: Exposure to OpenTelemetry or distributed tracing frameworks . Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM, Bicep). Knowledge of incident management processes and post-incident reviews. Entry-level or relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner, CompTIA Linux+, or similar ). Familiarity with AI/ML-driven observability or anomaly detection concepts . Understanding of SRE principles , including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets. Impact You'll Make: .
