We're looking for a detail-oriented and organized Commis to join our culinary team in Chennai, India. As a Commis specializing in South Indian cuisine, you will work under the guidance of senior chefs to prepare ingredients, assist with cooking, and maintain the highest standards of food quality and kitchen hygiene. Prepare and cut vegetables, meats, and other ingredients according to standardized recipes and specifications
Assist senior chefs in cooking and plating South Indian dishes, including curries, dosas, idlis, and other traditional preparations
Maintain proper food safety and hygiene standards in all kitchen operations, including proper storage and handling of ingredients
Organize and maintain mise en place (preparation of ingredients and equipment) for efficient kitchen workflow
Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including stoves, grills, and food preparation tools
Follow recipes and cooking instructions precisely to ensure consistency in taste and presentation
Support the kitchen team in a collaborative manner, responding promptly to requests and maintaining a positive work environment
Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared to the required standard
Assist with inventory management and report any shortages or quality issues to senior staff
Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift
Foundational knowledge of South Indian cooking techniques and traditional recipes
Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices in a professional kitchen setting
Basic knife skills and proficiency in food preparation techniques
Ability to follow recipes and instructions with precision and attention to detail
Familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools used in South Indian cuisine preparation
Strong time management and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work in a warm kitchen environment
Preferred: Prior experience working in a professional kitchen or South Indian restaurant
