Key responsibilities:
Undertakes legal research
Undertakes basic negotiation, review and drafting of contracts
Attends meetings and calls with senior lawyers, takes notes and undertakes follow up actions
Demonstrates the ability to provide assistance in basic legal and procedural areas
Drafts and proof reads documents and presentations
Develops professional relationships and client skills; the Trainee Lawyer will learn to build working-relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including becoming confident in front of such stakeholders and quickly earning their trust
Ensures that client matter files are kept up to date with correspondence and documents
Participates in the legal department’s marketing and networking strategies as directed
Conducts general administrative tasks alongside other trainees or legal assistants
Develops and delivers training, and legal risk management initiatives, to assist management in strategically managing legal risks (e.g. business training, legal updates, regulatory newsletters, etc.)
Supports implementation of best-practices in compliance, contract management, intellectual property, data privacy and M&A
Helps co-ordinate projects
Gains exposure to a broad range of legal, regulatory and commercial matters across multiple business functions and jurisdictions, while developing an understanding of the organisation’s business operations and risk environment.
Supports the legal team in identifying, escalating and tracking legal and compliance risks, and contributes towards the development of practical, business-oriented solutions under the guidance of senior lawyers.
Assists in the creation, maintenance and improvement of legal templates, playbooks, standard operating procedures and knowledge management resources to drive consistency and operational efficiency within the legal function.
Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders including finance, procurement, human resources, compliance, technology and business teams to support ongoing projects and commercial initiatives.
Develops an understanding of applicable laws, industry regulations, internal governance frameworks and ethical standards relevant to the organisation and its operations.
Supports contract lifecycle management activities, including document tracking, execution coordination, repository management and monitoring of contractual obligations.
Assists with due diligence exercises, internal reviews, audits, investigations and information gathering exercises, as may be required from time to time.
Demonstrates a proactive approach to learning, professional development and continuous improvement, while effectively managing assigned responsibilities and timelines.
Contributes to fostering a collaborative, professional and solutions-oriented culture within the legal team and broader organisation.
Undertakes additional responsibilities and special projects, as reasonably assigned by the legal team or business leadership from time to time.
