Designation: Assistant Manager – Raw Material Procurement
Location: Gandhinagar
About the Role
The AM – Raw Material Procurement will be responsible for managing end-to-end sourcing and procurement of raw materials, fabrics, and allied production inputs for manufacturing operations. The role requires strong expertise in strategic sourcing, textile/fabric procurement, vendor development, costing, commercial negotiations, and supply continuity management.
The incumbent will play a critical role in optimizing procurement cost, improving vendor performance, ensuring timely material availability, and supporting production efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
Lead procurement activities for raw materials, fabrics, trims, and related production inputs.
Develop and execute category sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives.
Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate sourcing and value engineering initiatives.
Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials to support production timelines.
2. Vendor Development & Management
Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers and job work partners.
Build strong relationships with domestic and international vendors.
Conduct vendor capability assessments, price benchmarking, and performance evaluations.
Drive supplier negotiations related to pricing, payment terms, lead times, and quality standards.
3. Costing & Commercial Negotiation
Manage costing analysis for raw materials and production services.
Lead commercial negotiations to achieve optimum procurement value.
Monitor market trends, raw material price fluctuations, and sourcing risks.
Ensure procurement activities are aligned with budget and margin expectations.
4. Production & Job Work Coordination
Coordinate closely with production, planning, and operations teams for material requirements.
Manage job work procurement and subcontracting activities.
Ensure timely dispatch and receipt of materials from job work vendors.
Resolve supply chain bottlenecks impacting manufacturing operations.
5. Inventory & Supply Planning
Monitor inventory levels to maintain optimum stock availability.
Minimize excess inventory and avoid stock-outs through effective planning.
Collaborate with warehouse and production teams for material reconciliation and control.
6. Compliance & Process Governance
Ensure procurement processes comply with company policies and audit requirements.
Maintain procurement documentation, contracts, and MIS reports.
Drive process improvements and digitization initiatives within procurement operations.
Desired Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of textile and fabric procurement processes.
Expertise in strategic sourcing and vendor management.
Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
Good understanding of costing and procurement analytics.
Ability to manage multiple vendors and high-volume procurement operations.
Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
Proficiency in ERP systems, procurement tools, and Microsoft Office.
Experience
10+ years of experience in raw material procurement and sourcing.
Proven experience in textile/fabric procurement preferred.
Experience in handling vendor development and commercial negotiations.
Prior exposure to manufacturing or textile industry is preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Textile Engineering, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field.
MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain or Operations Management will be an added advantage.
